"En l'Ane 2000" foi uma série francesa que imaginava os avanços tecnológicos que existiriam no ano 2000. Vários artistas, liderados por Jean-Marc Côté, participaram da criação de cerca de 78 ilustrações, produzidas entre 1899 e 1910.
Nessa época, Alberto Santos-Dumont, uma das figuras mais proeminentes no surgimento da aviação vivia em Paris, realizando uma série de experimentos com balões que, eventualmente levaram à criação do 14-Bis, a primeira máquina mais pesada que o ar a voar por sua própria força, sem auxílio externo, em 26 de outubro de 1906.
Santos-Dumont cria firmemente que avióes particulares deveriam ser para todos, como hoje o é com automóveis.
Estas idéias capturaram a imaginação dos franceses, fascinação que espalhou-se pela Europa, como Fritz Lang demostraria com o seu "Metrópolis" (1927).
“En l’An 2000” was a French series of images imagining what scientific progress might look like by the year 2000. Created by several artists, with Jean-Marc Côté as head of the project, at least 78 illustrations were produced and printed between 1899 and 1910.
At the same time, Paris was home to one of the most visionary figures of early aviation: Alberto Santos-Dumont. Living in the French capital, he carried out a series of experiments with balloons that eventually led to the 14-Bis—the first heavier-than-air aircraft to fly under its own power, without external assistance, on 26 October 1906.
Santos-Dumont firmly believed that flying should not be reserved for a privileged few. He argued that every citizen should one day be able to own a personal flying machine, much as private cars would later become common.
These ideas captured the imagination of the public and this fascination with planes to everyone was not limited to France, as Fritz Lang would later demonstrate in his film Metropolis (1927).
