"I Went Too Far!" e "Broadway Lights" ("I Went Too Far!" and "Broadway Lights")

"I Went Too Far!" foi publicado pela primeira vez em "Hi-School Romance" #19 publicada pela Harvey em Fevereiro de 1953 (data de capa). Pouco depois, em Setembro de 1954, a Comics Magazine Association of America promulgou a Comics Code Authority como uma alternativa à censura do governo que procurava evitar descrições gráficas de violência e sexo nos quadrinhos (as sérias razões para essa censura devem ser consideradas, mas não neste artigo); o fato é que "I Went Too Far!" foi republicada em Setembro de 1955 pela mesma Harvey, na mesma revista, #43, agora com o título de "Broadway Lights" a qual tornou-se um ícone do mal que a censura pode fazer a uma obra. Melhor teria sido fazer uma nova obra, adaptada aos critérios do Comics Code Authority. A necessidade, o bem e o mal que a censura pode trazer para a arte devem ser discutidos mas em outro momento. O que não merece discussão, mas deve ser simplesmente rejeitada é a censura ao estudo da História, ao direito de opinião, à investigação de fatos presentes, etc.

"I Went Too Far!" was originaly published by Harvey's "Hi-School Romance" #19 with cover date of February 1953. Shortly after, on September 1954, the Comics Magazine Association of America promulgated the Comics Code Authority as an alternative to the government censorship developed to reduce the graphic scenes of horror and sex in comics (the serious reasons for the creation of such censorship must be put in consideration however not in this article); but in September 1955 Harvey decided republished "I Went Too Far!" under the new tittle of  "Broadway Lights" what became an icon of the damage censorship can do to a piece of art. To make a new comic adapted to the criteria of the Comics Code Authority would be a much better choice. How need censorship can be on art, its goods and bads are other points open to discussion but not here. What is not open to discussion, deserving simply total rejection is censorship on the study of History, to the right to freely hold opinions, free investigation of current events, etc.
