1312.September.7 - King Ferdinand IV of Castile dies in his bed without witnesses. His death was linked to a curse cast by two knights ordered to be killed by the king. They proclaimed that the king would die within 30 days to appear before God for a fair trial, for himself and the knights. This earned the king the posthumous title of "The Summoned".

1432.Maio.26, ás 17 horas - Joaneta Varoli está a colher pasto num prado chamado Mazzolengo, próximo a Caravaggio quando viu uma senhora com aspecto de rainha que lhe disse, com voz de bondade, que não tivesse medo. Apresentou-se como a Virgem Maria e disse: “Tenho conseguido afastar do povo cristão os merecidos e iminentes castigos da Divina Justiça, e venho anunciar a Paz”. Nossa Senhora de Caravaggio pede ao povo que volte a fazer penitência, jejue nas sextas-feiras e vá orar na igreja no sábado à tarde em agradecimento pelos castigos afastados e pede que lhe seja erguida uma capela. Como sinal da origem divina da aparição e das graças que ali seriam dispensadas, ao lado de onde estavam seus pés, brota uma fonte de água límpida e abundante, existente até os dias de hoje e nela muitos doentes recuperam a saúde. 
1432.May.26, at 5:00 p.m. - Joaneta Varoli was harvesting grass in a meadow called Mazzolengo, near Caravaggio, when she saw a queenly-looking lady who, in a kind voice, told her not to be afraid. She introduced herself as the Virgin Mary and said: "I have succeeded in averting the deserved and imminent punishments of Divine Justice from the Christian people, and I come to announce Peace." Our Lady of Caravaggio asks the people to resume penance, fast on Fridays, and pray in church on Saturday afternoon in thanksgiving for the punishments averted, and requests that a chapel be built for her. As a sign of the divine origin of the apparition and the graces that would be dispensed there, next to where her feet were, a spring of clear and abundant water springs up, existing to this day, and from it many sick people recover their health.

1655.Agosto.11 - A peste irrompe no bairro norte de Milão enquanto festividades estavam sendo planejadas para a chegada de Dom João da Áustria. Ao saber do surto, a maioria das autoridades seculares, juntamente com Dom João, fugiram. São Carlos Borromeu participava do funeral de um bispo fora da cidade quando soube da notícia. Em vez de ficar no local ou fugir, ele imediatamente partiu em direção à cidade. Ao entrar em Milão, muitas pessoas correram para ele clamando por misericórdia. Sem descansar de sua jornada, São Carlos foi direto para a catedral onde fez uma breve oração pedindo ajuda a Deus, depois avançou para o epicentro do surto, sem nem mesmo tirar suas roupas de montaria empoeiradas. 1576.August.11 - The plague broke out in the northern district of Milan while festivities were being planned for the arrival of Dom John of Austria. Upon learning of the outbreak, most of the secular authorities, along with Dom John, fled. Saint Charles Borromeo was attending a bishop's funeral outside the city when he heard the news. Instead of staying or fleeing, he immediately set off toward the city. Upon entering Milan, many people rushed to him, begging for mercy. Without resting from his journey, Saint Charles went straight to the cathedral where he offered a brief prayer asking God for help, then advanced toward the epicenter of the outbreak without even removing his dusty riding clothes. When he finally retreated to the episcopal palace, he found a few remaining government officials waiting for him. They asked Saint Charles to take command of the city, as its leaders, including the governor, had abandoned their posts.
